After you install SP3 or after you perform Windows XP repair from original CD, Microsoft Windows updates do not work anymore. Updates might get downloaded, but not installed.
Also, when you try to install MSN Messenger Live, installation might fail and offer to retry later.
This might happen because windows uses new update wups2.dll, but they "forgot" to register it.
To do it manually, you simply follow these steps:
- stop Windows Update Services by typing in CMD window: net stop wuauserv
- then register new update component by typing: regsvr32 wups2.dll
- restart Windows Update Services: net start wuauserv
After this procedure Windows update should work, either automatic or by visiting Microsoft Update web page. |
